Just click the "edit" tab at the top of any page. Keep in mind that some special pages can't be edited, so you won't see an "edit" tab on those pages.

[[Category:Help]]

+
Once you've clicked the "edit" tab, you'll see a "posting" screen, with the full text of the article in the screen. Simply edit it as if you were editing one of your own posts on a bulletin board. Once you're done, use the Save Page button at the bottom to save your work. Don't worry -- each article is saved every time it's updated, so it's very easy to roll back to a previous version of an article.
+

+
== Discussion ==
+
To discuss a particular article, simply click the "discussion" tab at the top of the page for that article. Within the discussion area (not within main articles), please be certain to sign your posts with your signature. This can be done by simply clicking the "signature" button at the top of your posting screen (second from the right).
+

+
== Special formatting ==
+
The Crankshaft Coalition Wiki uses special characters to format text and links. Bulletin boards use the same method, however, wiki syntax is slightly different. You can always use the buttons at the top of your posting screen for bold or italic text, links, or other formatting features.
+

+
== Experiment ==
+
Feel free to use the [[practice page]] to try out some of the editing features.
+

+
== Copy-pasting and copyright ==
+
In most cases, copyright laws prevent us from allowing people to copy-paste text from other sources directly onto wiki pages. However, once original text is typed into the Crankshaft Coalition Wiki, it is covered under a special license that enables it to be freely shared.
+

+
So, you can't copy someone else's text into a wiki page, but other people can copy and share original text from the Crankshaft Coalition Wiki.
+

+
Rather than copy-pasting text from external sources, try to summarize external text and/or provide a link to it.
+

+
For more information on copy-pasting and the copyright license used by the Crankshaft Coalition Wiki, see: [[Crankshaft Coalition Wiki:Copyrights]].
+

+
==How to make links==
+
There are two types of links on wikis. '''External''' links, which are links that point to websites or webpages that are outside the wiki, and '''internal''' links, that point to other wiki pages.
+

+
===External links===
+
To make an external link, type the following into the posting box:
+

+
<nowiki>[http://www.website.com Link Title]</nowiki>
+

+
So, for example, if you wanted to put in a link to the home page of Google, you would type in the following:
+

+
<nowiki>[http://www.google.com Google Home Page]</nowiki>
+

+
Here's how it would appear on a wiki article page:
+
[http://www.google.com Google Home Page]
+

+
===Internal links===
+
If you want to insert a link to a pre-existing wiki article, just type the article name, surrounded by double brackets, like this:
+

+
<nowiki>[[John Deere Blitz Black paint]]</nowiki>
+

+
Here's how it would appear on a wiki article page:
+
[[John Deere Blitz Black paint]]
+

+
Internal links are cAsE-SeNsItIvE, so be sure to type uppercase and lowercase letters properly.
+

+
==How to start a new article==
+
===Use the "new article" box===
+
You can start a new article by using the box below:
+
{{createarticle}}
+

+
===Start a new article by linking===
+
Alternatively, you can start a new article by first making a link to it, as described above. Simply edit any wiki page to include the name of your article, in double-brackets, like this: <nowiki>[[How to troubleshoot brakes]]</nowiki>. Then, simply click on the link, and start typing your article.
+

+
==How to upload images==
+
Most images that you find on the internet are copyrighted, and can't be uploaded to the Crankshaft Coalition Wiki.
+

+
However, you may upload your own images to the Crankshaft Coalition Wiki. Alternatively, if you are familiar with copyright laws, you may upload copyright-free images as well. For sources of copyright-free images, see the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Public_domain_image_resources Wikipedia public domain image resources page].
+

+
Here's how to add an image to an article:
+
#First, upload it to the Crankshaft Coalition Wiki. Click the "Upload file" link in the "toolbox" section on the left-hand side of the page. You'll then be taken to the image upload form.
+
#You'll see a standard "Browse" or "Choose File" button. Click it, and then select the proper image from your computer.
+
#In the "Destination filename" box, insert the new name for the file. Most likely, the image file was named something like DHC12345.jpg on your computer. Rename it to something more accurate and descriptive, like "headers.jpg".
+
#In the "Summary" text field, include a brief summary of the image.
+
#Click the "Upload file" button. Be patient, the image will be uploaded from your computer.
+
#Once it's uploaded, you can reference the image in any article by typing <nowiki>[[Image:headers.jpg]]</nowiki>.
+

+
You can always practice on the [[practice page]].
+

+
== Be bold! ==
+
Above all, when editing the Crankshaft Coalition Wiki -- be bold! Add facts and information wherever possible. Fix problems if you see them. Change wording or grammar for clarity. Don't worry about offending anyone. Edit frequently, the quality of the wiki is dependent upon it. Be bold!
