Curiously, the "bundle of snakes" concept, and with it the "overhead exhaust header" concept, died with the mid- to late-sixties formula and sportscar cars. This is largely due to the inherit "updraft" requirements for the intake aspect of head design. It is much easier and more efficient for the engine's intake to begin in the middle of the "vee" created in a V-8 design.
