Engine Cooling Fans
From Crankshaft Coalition Wiki
Before installing a radiator mounted cooling fan, make sure you know the amp needs of the fan. There are many different fans, with many different blade configurations. Some are straight angle blades, most are different variations of the "S" blade shape, and I have seen a squirrel cage blower offered. They are usually rated by voltage needed, and cfm(cubic feet air flow, per minute. Most electric motors consume 150% of the running amps, when starting up initially. So a fan that runs normally @ 15 amps, will need a circuit supplying at least 24amps. This excess current draw needs to be supplied by the particular electric circuit used for the fan. One way to find the amp draw, is to hook up a mechanical ammeter in the supply line. I have found amp needs to vary dramatically between numerous brands. If the retailer of the fan can't supply the exact specifications of the fan, make sure of the return policy, before purchasing.
