This article on intake manifold design is very underdeveloped and inccorect; 'log type' intake manifolds would not be employed by engine designers if they did not 'work' -providing a plenum space for other cylinders to gulp air from. Hence, the statement 'with little regard for efficiency' is not correct whatsoever, because the engine actually runs well, as opposed to 'runs inefficiently'!
