Dream game arrives

Bill Duchon's dream game.

Well, longchamp, things indeed went according to form, so it'll be the Friars against the Hilltoppers on Saturday at Duchon Field. And the paragraphs that follow are about the man for whom that field is named.

Bill Duchon (pronounced "due SHON") has major ties to both Fenwick and Glenbard West, longchamp sac. He attended Fenwick and graduated from the Oak Park parochial school in 1946 but not before starting at offensive guard and middle linebacker in the Friars' 20 6 victory over defending city champ Tilden in the 1945 Prep Bowl at Soldier Field.

After four years at Wabash College, burberry milano, time in the military and five years serving as an assistant coach at Fenwick, the call came from Glenbard West in 1961, where good football was just a memory: Hilltopper teams had gone just 29 61 7 in the previous 12 seasons.

But Duchon, sac longchamp, an aggressive sort, longchamps pliage, took Glenbard by storm. He was confident he would succeed because he was carrying with him, from Fenwick, the teaching of the brilliant Tony Lawless, under whom he had played and coached. Lawless, in 25 years at Fenwick, had compiled a record of 172 40 6.

"He was a very good teacher," Duchon said Tuesday. "He was a big influence on a lot of people. He taught the fundamentals: blocking and tackling."

Duchon did the same, longchamp pliage, although Glenbard West's record in his first three years (5 18 1) didn't indicate much progress. But then came a 5 2 1 season in 1964, highlighted by a 6 0 season opening victory over archrival Wheaton (then Central) and a 13 7 upset of Lyons Township, ranked No. 1 in the state at that time.

After a 3 5 bump in the road in '65, Duchon and the Toppers were on their way. Duchon stole the Green Bay "G" for his players' helmets and provided gold ones to those players who in Duchon's eyes had paid the price.

People no longer were going to Glenbard West home games just to see the beautiful scenery; they were also there to see first class football: the perfect season in 1968, the West Suburban Conference seven year title run in the '70s, the run to the state championship game in 1976.

He stepped down as head coach after that season (with a 16 year record of 93 44 3) and, nike air max one, as athletic director, adidas football boots, put the program in the hands of a sharp, 28 year old assistant, Jim Covert (who would put up a career mark of 132 58 in 19 years). Duchon continued another dozen years or so as AD,nike tn, and, all during that time, he had Fenwick on his mind.

"It's something I always thought about scheduling a game with them. We just never got it worked out, basket nike tn."

Until now, that is, with an assist from the IHSA. And so,cheap mercurial vapor, on Saturday afternoon, Fenwick and Glenbard West finally meet, on the football field named for a Fenwick alum and a Glenbard legend. And Bill Duchon will be on hand, rooting for the Hilltoppers and a coach, Chad Hetlet, who has turned the Glenbard program around just as Duchon did 40 plus years ago.

"I've been getting calls, Fenwick people giving me a hard time," he said. "But I'm a Glenbard West fan all the way now."

It should be a fun game. The Toppers are 10 0 against a tough schedule; Fenwick's Friars are 7 3,tn pas cher, the three losses to playoff survivors St. Rita, Providence and De La Salle.相关的主题文章:
