== THE WHEEL BOLT CIRCLE GAGE – A must have item for the serious builder. ==

Often over looked, until you have the “I Need it Now” type answer” scenario, is the humble wheel bolt pattern gauge.  I have worked with several different types over the years and by far the most cumbersome was the one that comes with the gauges on a large plastic ring.  It comes as a kit and has two separate rings, one is USA SAE sizes in Inches, and the other is Metric, and the kit is expensive.

The best one I have found and now stays in my toolbox is the one outlined below.  This gauge is available from Jegs (www.jegs.com) for less than $20.00 (shipping included).

The tool works like a typical measuring caliper and works for SAE and Metric, And 4, 5, 6 and 8 Bolt Rims.  You place the points in the holes of the rims and read the corresponding chart on the tool. Or, you can place the flat pegs over the tips of the bolts and read the supplied chart.  The chart stays affixed to the tool, so you don’t have some book or reference chart to read.  Everything is self-contained and after using it a couple of times, you will see how beneficial this tool is.

Supplier: Jegs, (www.jegs.com)

Part Number: 555-80850

Price: 12.99 + shipping (approx. $5.00) = Less than $20.00

I have some rims at the shop that are GM from the downsized 80's to 90's FWD cars that are 5 x 4.5 inch bolt circle.  So be careful when thinking all GM wheels are 5 x 4.75 inch.  The GM 5 x 4.5 inch wheels will fit Ford, but are more positive and can hit the calipers on the front causing fitment issues.

Also the Jeep 5 x 4.5 will fit Ford.  The Jeep OEM steel wheels are usually in expensive as they are usually discarded due to upgrades by the Jeep owners.  I have a set on my 1976 Granada blacked out with chrome trim rings, and they were stock 8 inch wide.--[[User:Foperfoauto|Foperfoauto]] 20:20, 26 June 2016 (MDT)
