The above is pretty good, just remember that the OLDS is a weird engine. My engine builder, a friend of mine, a Toronado 455, builds EVERYTHING and was shaking his head at the thing.

*Half the rods were stamped on top,  the others on the bottom.
 +
*The pistons were machined without a forward mark, you have to look at the underside of the piston and just know which side goes up.
 +
*Non adjustable valve train, yuck. Make sure your machinest knows Olds heads, or you will be buying adjustable rockers anyway.
 +
*The distributor runs backwards, DO NOT shim it, lest you want to rebuild the engine again in a few weeks.
 +
*get a good double roller timing chain.
 +
 +
*Be very careful about listening to Mondello jr when he starts trying to sell you oil restrictors. If you arn't racing it is very questionable if you need or even want them. Besides most pushrods now are oil restricted already.
