Acetylene is a low pressure gas.
+
At no time is there much danger of an explosion since the gas never goes over 15 psi on the hose and maybe 200-300 on the bottle.
+
Oxygen in it's raw state is just an accelorator. It makes the flame burn faster and much hotter. It is a high pressure bottle(2000-3000 psi). This is the one that can explode.
+
When cutting mild steel, You should set your regulators at 20psi oxygen and 3-5psi on acetylene. When cutting muffler tubing you should use a triple ought (000)cutting tip.
+
This is a very small tip as tips go.
+
When lighting the torch, light the acetylene first. Bring it to a swift flame removing all smoke. Next, bring up your oxygen, watching the flame go from orange to blue and create a small bright blue cone (1/2inch) with a feathery blue flame around it. This is called the neutral flame. Hit the oxygen lever to make sure the oxygen is flowing correctly. Now then preheat your metal and then hit the oxy lever to cut. Your travel speed should be about 25 inches per minute for light gauge metal. Anchorboy 46 @ Houston County Welding
