A slow computer is no fun, but fortunately there are many ways to speed it up, and in this article we will be focusing on ways to make Windows Vista run faster. Despite the fact that Windows Vista is not a seamless operating system, it can function more effectively if you clean up your desktop, eliminate malware, tweak the settings, and some other elements that we will be talking about here. If you have Windows Vista, and it is running a little slow, changing the display settings will speed it up. When you leave the default display, which is Windows Aero, you have lots of colors and effects that are not necessary. If you were to ask a group of computer users if they would rather have a fancy display or a fast computer, most would take the latter. If you fall into this category, you'll want to change your display to Windows Standard. You can do this through the Control Panel, under "Appearance and Personalization." You will probably be so happy with the extra speed that you won't even realize that the display is not as colorful. One way to make your computer run faster if you have Windows Vista is to remove everything from your desktop that you don't use. A crowed and cluttered desktop has files that you haven't looked at in many months, along with icons and applications. If you haven't looked at it in a lot of months, then it probably isn't too important, so delete it, since you won't miss it. Create shortcuts on your desktop for files that you frequently use. Opening up files can be accomplished much easier when there is more operating memory in use. Shortcuts, as the name implies, speed up the time it takes to do things. A messy desktop makes things hard to find, along with slowing down your computer a lot. You should ascertain which programs auto-start when your computer is turned on. All of these have an impact on the speed of your booting up process and it is highly likely that most of those programs that come up are not being used every time you are on your computer. Beings as it only takes a few seconds to open a program, you might like to configure your computer in a way that prevents programs from auto-starting. You might realize that some of the programs that are set to auto-start are hardly ever used, so without even having to lose anything, you should be able to speed up the operations of your computer with these corrections. You can use the System Configuration Utility if you would like to stop or start some applications with auto-start. If you can keep your computer organized, you will help it run as best as possible. This will require you to consistently defragment your hard drive and eliminate programs that you aren't using so your computer works at its best speed. You will start to see improvement in Windows Vista if you just take our advice and watch it work.
