There are so many things that can go wrong with a boat when it is out on the ocean. Crafts are like motor vehicles and vans in that they need to have maintenace and repair done on them as often as possible particularly if you take your ship out a lot. What are the common issues that plaque cruiser motors and the owners. Ensure your inboard or stern-drive engine antifreeze is filled to prevent freezing. It may be advisable to replace this with new antifreeze each season as a precaution. Another culprit to an engine overheating is the water pump impeller has blown. It's best to have this spare part on board. However, most persons will not so what do you do to fix the problem and get back to shore? Use the drain plug located in the engine's water jacket. Using a funnel, pour new h2o into it. While it won't completely fix your problem, it does help in that you can slowly make your way back to the shoreline. However, you have to keep watch on your temperature gauge. If it seems like it is starting to get hot, stop and let it cool down. Depending on how far out you are will depend on how quick you get back to the shore. The first is to calculate whether the vessel can heel enough to bring the hole above h2o level, or to make it intermittently above h2o level. This has two benefits. First, much less water will get in, and, second, the hole will be in an area where it can be worked on directly from outside as well as inside. Heeling to get a hole higher is useful even if the hole is relatively deep. Going on the tack that raises the hole, even if it doesn't raise it above sea level, will reduce pressure causing the rate of water entering the vessel to be less. Force an abnormal amount of heel on the vessel by moving the anchors to one side and shifting all the sails and other heavy equipment that can be moved, as long as this doesn't affect stability. Preparing your vessel from the grips of winter requires you to perform some basic repair in the fall of the year before the temperatures dip under the freezing mark. This is a little more complex than winterizing your vehicle and generally involves a few additional steps that starts at the bow and continues to the stern. When power is not applied and the stream of h2o that propels the ship isn't there, jet-driven boats lose power. For this reason, you must keep objects-and your body-away from the pump intake. Boaters should never operate a jet driven boat in shallow water. It is clear that a Volvo Penta diesel engine will not be a choice you regret - not only are they built out of high quality materials and with performance in mind, they have been designed to be environmentally friendly and to last a life time (if not longer). When next looking for an engine for your cruiser, you won't go wrong with Volvo Penta.[http://spinnakerworkshop.com.au/mercury-mercruiser.php marine repair North Brisbane]
