Turkish Airlines has been a member of the Star Alliance network of airlines since April of 2008. The airlines have in excess of fifteen thousand employees and are headquartered in Ataturk International Airport in Istanbul Turkey. Recently, Turkish Airlines has gotten a lot of prestige awards. Because it offers the best quality of Economy Class flight food services on the globe, Turkish Airlines received an award for Skytrax. In addition, the airline was tagged as Europe's fastest growing airline. No one should be amazed by this because of the number of years that profits have grown in a row. In early February, 2011, Turkish Airlines received leading aviation industry magazine, Air Transport World, "Market Leadership Award 2011". This award represents an international recognition of accomplishment and was awarded in a ceremony held in Washington D.C. The global economy has made business very challenging for the vast majority of businesses around the world. It's a known fact that the airline industry generally follows the movements of the globally economy. Yet Turkish Airlines has flown in the face of economic movements, which should stand as a testimony to its strong marketing ability and management strategies. Turkish Airlines signed a curious marketing partnership with Caroline Wozniacki, the world's number one women's tennis player in late 2010. This indicated a strong international branding effort by the airline's marketing team. The plan is to have Miss Wozniacki representing the airline's Business Class Service. The airline is aiming primarily at appealing to European tennis fans by appointing the women's number one ranked tennis player as their spokesperson. The player will star in commercials for the airline and appear at public relations events throughout the course of her three year contract. During the summer of 2010, Turkish Airlines was abuzz with plenty of action. In July 2010, Turkish Airlines managed to sign off on a 5 year contract with Euroleague Basketball in which it will put up the funds for the world wide European basketball competition. In fact, the upcoming season will see a new name for the basketball association, Turkish Airlines Euroleague Basketball. This really should not be that much of a surprise to anyone who consistently follows the company's marketing plans. Turkish Airlines realizes the great appeal and reach that sports has. The flying public is right there in the middle of it all. US passengers can fly with Turkish Airlines from both coasts. Thus, passengers can easily access a wide range on destinations with a wide range of travel options available. The airline has, or soon will be, offering multi-weekly services to Washington DC and Los Angeles, both of which are major hubs for international travel.
