If you are thinking about registering for a Meisner summer intensive program this year, it is never too early to begin researching potential schools and setting up interviews. Here at our studio, we encourage the submission of applications starting in November. How should you begin to find the right class for you? A cosmopolitan city like NYC has many options to offer. In order to keep the studio afloat between the summer and fall sessions, many studios will charge large amounts of money for their summer acting program. Knowing your needs and knowing what to look for will help you to better make a decision that will be well worth your money. Items to consider: 1. Take a Look at the Studio's Website Do your research before you apply anywhere. Be meticulous about checking the website. A studio that takes care to create a great website is often one that will focus on creativity and artistry in the classroom as well. Does the website talk about their goals? Are they clear and purposeful or is the site filled with meaningless filler that sounds great but means very little? Is the site too focused on bragging about the qualifications and achievements of their instructors? Or does the studio seem more focused on the school as a whole? Who do they send to speak with you? Do they make you buy products prior to interviewing? These issues should all be considered. The best schools will always care first and foremost about the student. 2. Get Out There and Visit the Studios Going to the studio will help you to learn more about the studio's mission and teaching style. Did the website describe the studio accurately? Were they excited to show you the studio? Were they anxious to provide you with any information you needed? Did you feel welcome and secure while there? Did you like the look of the place? Were you offered a tour? Is the studio a place where you truly feel you can benefit from a Meisner summer intensive class? 3. Seek Out Studio Recommendations from Others Trustworthy friends can be a great resource for those looking for accurate studio recommendations. You should be cautious around schools that promise you success and fame. Personal perspectives from current and past students will allow to obtain first-hand knowledge before you even show up to your first day of class at the summer intensive program. Make sure that you talk to committed actors who are devoted to their craft. One summer session is certainly not sufficient to provide an actor with all of the tools they require. However, these sessions can still be highly valuable for both the aspiring and experienced actor. At our studio, the goal of the summer program is to provide our students with professional Meisner training that will improve your acting skills and give you a deeper love for your chosen career. We wish you luck with finding the right Meisner summer intensive class.
