It is obvious to see that there are more benefits than drawbacks to having a healthier diet. Just by changing one meal a day can yield a better diet. Portion control and the time of day you eat correlate to your diet as much as what you are eating. It's hardly a secret that eating more fruits, vegetables and whole grain is good for you, yet many people still don't do it. The problem is, many people just don't find these foods as tempting as less healthy choices. However if you base your meals on these healthy foods you can also add in some other, more unhealthy choices too. So in other words you must think in terms of including healthier foods in your meals, rather than just eliminating the foods that you love altogether. Eating bigger amounts of whole grains, fruits and vegetables will mean that you will not have much more room for things like sweets, carbohydrates and unhealthy snacks. Believe it or not, as you eat more healthy foods, you also start to develop a taste for them, so it's possible to improve your choices over time. The latest research on nutrition shows that fats aren't all bad; in fact, some fats are good for us and even necessary. Eliminating the bad fats and consuming more of the good ones should be your main focus on a healthier diet. There will be many words grabbing your attention as you transition to a healthier diet, and the most used will be trans fats. While junk food is really good to most people, it does contain trans fats which are not good for our diet. Fish oil and flax seed, on the other hand, contain the healthy fats we need to consume. Even saturated fats, which are found in dairy products, are healthy in small doses, especially if they come from a natural or organic source. Some research has shown that many illnesses, including obesity, is the result of excessive sugar in your daily diet regimen. From junk food to dinner desserts, foods high in sugar are very plentiful in our modern world. Foods that we use everyday including tomato sauce, ketchup, and peanut butter have great quantities of sugar that are bad for us. You should start checking out the labels of the foods that you buy, look for fructose corn syrup on the label, and if it is there, avoid eating these foods. If possible, make breakfast as sugar-free as possible by eating foods like unsweetened cereals and cream of wheat. With an open mind, you will see that there are so many more foods out there for you that are healthy. Eating unhealthy foods can become a habit just like eating healthy foods can become one too, you just have to focus. While you aren't expected to be perfect at always eating healthy, make an effort to take small treats here and there and continue to make better choices.
