Barefoot Consultants Freelancing - Keep a Clean Desk and Manage Your Jobs…archiving and accessing your archived files on Elance One of the challenges many new freelancers face is that of keeping their virtual desk top clean and organized when working multiple jobs. It doesn't take too many active or inactive jobs or bids before your "My Elance" desktop begins to become cluttered and disorganized. One easy way to avoid or clean-up that clutter is to archive the inactive jobs or bids. Archiving puts your files out of site into a virtual file cabinet of sorts. It helps you by clearing your desk top of unnecessary clutter while still keeping the files available. And archiving couldn't be any easier. Simply click on the Actions button for the job or bid you wish to archive. From the drop down menu, click on Archive. …that's all there is to it! But accessing or retrieving your archived files is another story! Obviously the whole point of having archived files is that if you need to refer to them for any reason, they are still available. But recently a member contacted support wondering how to access their archived files. They had several files archived but couldn't seem to find them in Elance. And quite honestly, I had to think for a bit before I could remember how to access them myself. Computer programs and websites are like an onion; multiple layers-some transparent and others not so transparent, often hiding what lies beneath the next layer. Elance is no different. And sometimes too it's the old "Can't see the forest for the trees" concept. Things that we don't use often become invisible, even while remaining in plain sight. In this instance it is a bit of both-multiple layers hiding the archived files beneath a button that becomes invisible because it is front of us all the time. In short, to access your archived files simply click on the Job Status button on your "My Jobs" page. From the drop-down window that appears, click on Archived Files. And, voilà! …your archived files appear! …just as easy as archiving the files was in the first place! The hidden lesson here is that pays for all of us to explore our desk tops from time to time, hovering our cursor over every word on the screen to see what might lie beneath. …you never know what gems you might uncover hiding beneath that next layer.
