Usually the first appearance is to set guilty or not guilty. Something most people dont know is that between the time of your first appearance and the next one set when you choose not guilty (naturally if your going to fight the ticket in the first place), if you go talk to the judge you are appointed, they ''might'' throw out the ticket fine altogether or give you a much smaller court fine in place of it and no points on your license and no rise in insurance. It is at least worth a try.
