   I disconnect the ground wire and put put a voltage meter between the ground terminal and the battery, this will show voltage only when there is a draw. If there is nothing drawing the current then the meter will show "0"volts, this will be your indicator if you find the problem.

   The next step is remove fuses until the meter goes to 0, when it does you have found the branch that is causing the problem. That branch should be noted and the fuse replaced, the meter will show voltage again and parts of the circuit disconnected until the voltage drops again. When it does that should be your problem area, bad switch, corroded light socket, bare wire or some area of damage that should be obvious. Even if the part appears to look good but has a voltage drain showing replace it or remove it for closer inspection.
