A couple of ago, it was hard to brush off the buzz online about Twitter marketing tools. It was thought that you could use Twitter as an effective way to build a list of prospective purchasers for your products or services. But the question is, were any of those softwares and programs that were promoted, actually doing you any good? Just how great is Twitter marketing? This article will examine the case for becoming involved and to determine if it will really repay your time and effort.

Anxious to step up my product sales, I went ahead and got started on Twitter marketing to create a big list of followers hoping to turn them into customers. I ended up paying for and  programs that would get me followers and programs that would essentially promote my products for me. In all, I think I bought about 8 software programs to help with my Twitter marketing venture.

I paide for a software package that would automatically follow people for me in an attempt to prompt them to follow me back. If anyone was not following me, I had another program that would automatically delete them from my to-follow list. This would allow me to follow various people once again to get them to follow me. Amongst other software I bought, there was one program which automatically tweeted a blog post just as soon as it was posted to my blog. Initially, I was really delighted with the end results after using the programs in combination because they really delivered on what they promised. But as soon as it seemed I wasn't generating any money, my initial excitement was soon squashed. Daily I would post roughly ten blog entries knowing that they would then automatically be shown on Twitter also. Believing that more blog posts would increase my blog traffic, I arranged for my daily blog posts to be made automatically both to my blog and to Twitter as well.

The results of my efforts are as follows: After three years utilizing these methods, I had built nearly 10,000 Twitter followers. You may be really delighted to gain that number of followers, but there's more to come. Also in the past three years I have had over fifteen thousand of my blog posts that were advertising affiliate products tweeted to my Twitter account. And that was the only campaigning that I did for that blog, I chose not to even ping the posts to see exactly what Twitter could do for me. Just how 'good' it was quickly became evident: after 3 years only two affiliate sales pulled in $46.74 plus another $9.10 for Adsense. With just 2 - 4 visits every day originating from Twitter, perhaps this is not surprising.

Despite me using tools to make the job more effortless and gaining roughly 10,000 followers on Twitter, I still could not turn a decent profit using Twitter marketing for my blog. As a matter of fact, in the last 3 years I have not even made good money from that blog to pay for the Twitter programs that I had purchased. So in my opinion, though there may be good ways to advertise on Twitter, investing in the automatic softwares are not the way to go.
