Backlinks provides your Internet site with authority and any Internet marketer will tell you that. And a few years ago, trading links together with various other websites was looked upon as being a terrific way to build backlinks. But with all the modifications that Google has made over the years, is this still considered a good advertising method? If you want to know if it is still a very good practice, keep reading and you will discover the answer. For those of you who don't know a backlink is simply a link pointing to your site coming from a different site. For the most part you will discover that the search engines count these kinds of links as a popularity vote for your web site. Which means that your site will rank higher in the search engines if you have more backlinks to your web page. But one thing you should keep in mind is that every link that is built has a different benefit in the search engine eyes. Let's just say you have a web link on a website that has a page rank of 3, if the link is on the home page of the website you will discover that it has more value than if the link is found on a sub page of that website. In order to determine the value of the link you need to look at the page the link is on, rather than what the page rank of the home page is, even though the home page rank will probably still help a little. Under normal circumstances you'll find that when you trade backlinks the link pointing back to your website is rarely on the home page. So you're not receiving the same results from that link, that you would from the home page of that website. Additionally these link pages can end up with 100s or even 1000s of other links pointing to some other websites. I am certain that nearly all of you already know that Google frowns upon this and generally these backlinks do not even get counted. Something else that many of you know is that Google likes one way links as opposed to link exchanges. Just so you realize, a one way link is just what it sounds like, you receive a link from a site but you don't need to link back to them. Google likes to see one way backlinks and they will in addition reward your website when they see these types of links. Something else you will have to be careful of is trading backlinks with websites that Google doesn't like as this could hurt the reputation of your site. Of course it's not your aim to have Google hate you, but it can happen if you trade backlinks with the wrong Internet sites. Trading links can be useful to you if the Internet site is trusted, has a good page ranking and also features a steady flow of traffic. There is always the danger that Google is not going to even index a deep page that has lots of links on it, so if your backlink ends up there, it is worthless. And that tends to make that website link absolutely pointless. There are a lot of ways to get backlinks for your site and when you can develop high quality one way links, they will generally beat out link exchanges each and every time.
