One of the many statistics that Elance tracks, calculates and posts that is often overlooked by new freelancers is your Elance Level. Probably the first place you will encounter your Elance Level is on the right side of your profile page in the "Company Snapshot" box. Your Elance Level will also be found on your "My Stats" page and on all proposals and in search results. So what exactly is your Elance Level and what does it really mean to your freelance success? Elance Level is calculated from a proprietary algorithm focusing on three primary areas: Client Relationship, Service Delivery and Marketing Activities. Overall, your level is calculated from points you have earned in several different categories. These categories include Earnings, Feedback rating, Hours worked (for hourly freelancers), Milestones submitted, Average earnings rate, Client recommendations, Repeat clients, Tested skills, Verified credentials, Jobs accepted and Invite response rates. Additionally, there are penalties or points lost for bidding below budget, job cancelations and policy violations. Ultimately, your Elance level affects your search ranking and your visibility, either limiting or opening doors to greater success. All freelancers start off at Level 1 and progress based on points earned not only from their Elance activity, but also from their performance. Needless to say, providing good quality work that meets or exceeds the client's expectations and is delivered on or before deadline is crucial to your freelance reputation and success. Your Elance level is one way that this integrity and commitment to excellence is communicated to potential clients. As John Wooden once said, "It's the little details that are vital. Little things make big things happen." So give attention to the "little details" and watch your Elance Level grow…big things are sure to happen!
