===289 High performance (K-code)=== *Available from 1963 to 1967 *Same block casting as other 289 engines, but with larger two-bolt main caps. These same type caps were later used on the Mexican 302 block. *Higher nodular cast iron content crankshaft with added on front counterweight to offset the beefier caps and 3/8" rod hardware. Originally HiPo cranks had orange paint on counterweight. *Added on front counterweight on crankshaft required a different timing gear *Beefier balancer *3/8" rod bolts *Mechanical lifter camshaft *Dual point distributor without vacuum advance *Screw in rocker studs *Heads have two dots cast above "289", non HiPo heads have one dot. Have machine finished valve spring cups cast into the head. Both small (11.6:1 cr 1963 to 04-'64;10.5:1 cr 1965) and large (10:1 cr, 1966-'67) chamber heads were used with either 1.67" (before 04-'64) or 1.78" (04-'64 to '67) intake valves.
