Has anyone swapped a full frame for the original frame on 46-48 Chevys? It looks like a Chevrolet Caprice in the years 77-90 (same wheelbase, just a little difference in the tracking) would work but I haven't tried it, just want to know if anyone has and what problems you had.
Response: The Caprice may be a little too wide and look awkward on the far-narrower early Stovebolt. A better match may be had with the frame from a G-body GM, like the '78-'86 Monte Carlo, Cutlass Supreme, El Camino, etc.
Response:
I made my own chassis for my 46 fleetmaster using the front clip from a '74 camaro and the mid and rear sections of a '77 Malibu, I welded together both sections to the correct wheelbase.
This new chassis adapts nicely to the body and gives adequate room for the floor, of course new body mounts are needed because none match.
The track is slightly wider than the original but I have the fenders widened already, I want a "fat" look.
I'll post some pictures as soon as I find the way to do it.
Augusto.
