Crankcase breather

Im tryn to help a buddy who has a 63 chevy Bisayne..Its got a 283 with the breather tube. We want to go 4 barrell without the breather tube. The heade are original 283 heads 3795896 castings, can we jus go with a pcv valve covers? And yes it does have the can in the lifter valley.
